Lightning data for New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Southern New York, Connecticut, Long Island, and the New York City area.


Lightning data overlaid with radar data is updated every 5 minutes. It is occasionally turned off during fair weather.

Images are saved in Greenwich Mean Time, Otherwise known as "Z" time. Subtracting -4 hours from the time indicated on the map = Eastern Time during the daylight savings period. (spring and summer) And subtract -5 hours during the Fall and Winter to get the current time.

= 2 strikes or less within a 2 mile radius during the last 2 minutes.

= 8 strikes or less within a 2 mile radius during the last 2 minutes.

= 14 strikes or less within a 2 mile radius during the last 2 minutes.

= 15 strikes or More within a 2 mile radius during the last 2 minutes.

= Older Lightning Data (strikes are atleast 4 minutes old)

= Possible Hail

= Possible Tornado
